Ugly Vintage Patterns

Simple Simon and Company are doing a fun series called "You Can't Judge An Ugly Vintage Pattern By It's Cover".  So I went through all my vintage patterns and picked out my two must grimace causing patterns.

The illustrations on this vest pattern really scare me.  Just look at that smile in the top left. Yikes.

I don't even know what to think about this one.  The fabric, the cropped unisex pant outfits, the duffle bag.  It is all just too much for me to even look at.

I hope these don't give you too many nightmares.

Apples or Strawberries Nightgown

When I started sewing for babies, I bought a book called Making Children's Clothes by Emma Hardy.  I've made several items from it with mixed results (sizing is all over the place).  One pattern I have made several times, the nightgown.  It is so cute and fits a long time.

On my most recent fabric shopping trips, it was Eleanor and I, and to help keep her happier longer I bribed her with getting some fabric just for her.  We picked out some cute polka dot apple (Eleanor calls them strawberries) flannel.  It sews up really fast.

The pattern has long sleeves, but I had to do short, since I didn't have enough fabric for it, which I realized after I started cutting.  I like it none the less.

A Huge Work in Progress

I have a ton of scraps and we need a new blanket on our bed, so I decided I should try my hand at quilting.  I think that cathedral quilts are so beautiful and perfect for using scraps.  So for the next forever, I'm going to be working on make our own.  I'm following the tutorials from Hyena in Petticoats and The Jilted Ballerina, since they both use a lot of pictures and I'm a very visual learner.  I'm hoping to get through one window a day or so (maybe less if I don't feel like sewing, gasp).

Here is what I had a week ago.  I've done a little more since then, but too lazy to take more pictures.

It is a lot easier than it looks, just a lot of ironing, which isn't so bad with my new iron.  The old started smelling electrical, if that makes any sense.

ps: I got my new camera.  Love it!  Now I have to learn how to edit them better.
